Monument to a Monument» am Alpenquai in Zug

„Monument to a Monument“ depicts in abstracted form the Matterhorn. Set on the lakeside, with a romantic mountain backdrop, the skulptur provokes spatial confuson, raising questions of regional and national identity and specifically their marketing.

While the competitiveness of an area is indexed and classified through economic factors, cultural values are also gaining significance.

„Monument to a Monument“ employs existent cliché, interogating it at the same time. The sculpture joins contemporary discussion with the symbol of a mountain (the Matterhorn) which has a deep cultural significance, and at the same is employed in the worldwide marketing of the brand „Switzerland“.
